Background of workshop

Business process engineering and business process re-engineering have emerged in response to organizational needs to deliver value to their customers, efficiently and effectively. This need arose because of the limitations of traditional functional organizations to provide a one-stop shop for customer needs.

Surveys by Gartner, BP Wave etc. have shown that organizations gain very significantly by defining their business processes well and keeping them in alignment with their needs.

Business process engineering/re-engineering has been facilitated by the development of standards and supporting tools. The OMG has introduced the BPMN standard that is being widely adopted today. A range of companies like IBM, Oracle, Bizagi etc. offer Business Process modeling tools. Surveys done in 2007 predicted an average growth rate in this market of about 30% annually.

Workshop Objective

To enable participants to model, design and execute business process models.

This objective shall be achieved by case studies, laboratory work, and projects to be developed by participants. The workshop is highly practice oriented with approximately 75% of the time spent will be spent on business process modeling tools and techniques.

1.   Role of Business Process Modeling in organizations

2.   Modeling of Business process using:-

  • UML Activities Diagram
  • Event Process Chains
  • BPMN

The meet was attended by students and professionals from more than 12 countries and the speakers including Dr. Pachauri (Director-General, TERI), Bharat Chhetri, Purab Kohli, Karma Paljor. Main Highlights of YUVA Meet 2012 included action oriented group activities and interaction with the students; orientation to new and innovative ideas; selected student participants invited to participate in DSDS 2012 and selected students to participate in International Student Energy Summit.

Tarush Jain (CSE, VI Sem) form MRCE attended the YUVA meet and on the basis of active participation and entrepreneurial venture BRAINWIZ, Tarush got nominated for the Green Globe Award and also got selected (20 out of 250) to attend 12th DSDS. The three-day event was full of panel discussions and socializing evenings with some of eminent world leaders including Dr. Manmohan Singh, Dr. Pachauri and Arnold Schwarznagger. The panel discussions revolved around the Global Commons.

The idea of this program was to give a good grounding on the art of building basic, manual and autonomous robots out of discrete electronic components. The workshop focused on to empower students and enthusiasts with capability of understanding and using basic autonomous robotics.  Workshop Training was for two days and comprised of 5 hours of theory and practical sessions. Relevant Documentation was also provided to the students. The learning and training will also help the students in Final Year Projects, Thesis, Minor and Major Projects, Industrial Projects and day to day life.

This workshop was divided daily into two intensive sessions. First session was primarily training session, which were taken by trained and certified trainers – Ms. Yogita Sharma, Ms. Pragati Chauhan, Professor I.K. Kilam and Mr. Sanjay Kapoor.  They enlightened the audience with their wisdom.  Second session of each day was planned to have interactive session with eminent Guest Speakers having experience in different fields such as Mr. Sidharth, Director, Success Monk; Mr. S.P.
